The Cottages Expands Life Care at The Home

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) or Life Care Communities (LCC) have been springing up around the country for the last decade as seniors look for the security of a place that can care for them as their need for personal assistance and medical care grow. (See cover article.) In Fall River, no such full continuum of care has been available - until now. With twenty-two independent living cottages under construction, The Home LCC will now be able to offer fully independent living, apartment living with meals and support services at its Bay View Retirement Community, and nursing care at Adams House which has served the area’s elderly since 1891.

The 2,760 square foot cottages feature 1,380 of primary living space on the main level and 1,380 square feet on the terrace level which can be finished to suit the resident. Each home features two bedrooms, two baths, living/ dining room with vaulted ceilings and gas fireplace, a deck, patio and one-car garage.

These New England style homes are very spacious and the views of the Fall River Country Club and Taunton River are Spectacular. Located just off Route 24 at 4380 North Main Street, The Cottages are within easy reach of shopping, doctors’ offices, churches, and all that Boston, Providence, Newport and the Cape have to offer. Investing in a residence at The Cottages is not just about moving to a place where you no longer have to do yard work or home maintenance. It’s about planning ahead and eliminating the uncertainties that come with aging. It’s also about being part of a community of neighbors. Many Bay View residents made the decision because family or close, lifelong friends resided there. In some instances it is a decision made amongst friends or close relations. Cottage residents have priority admission to Bay View Retirement Community where support services and meals are provided, and Adams House for nursing care.

Residents within The Home Life Care Community gain entrance to their Cottage home or Bay View residence through a long term lease, and pay a monthly fee for basic and optional services. A percentage of the entrance fee is refunded when the unit is reoccupied. Residents of The Cottages and Bay View have priority admission to Adams House should 24- hour respite or long-term nursing care be needed. Because Adams House does not participate in Medicare and Medicaid programs, a non-profit board of volunteer trustees provides oversight to ensure that residents receive the highest quality of care. Interest generated by an endowment enables The Home to give over one million dollars worth of care annually to residents whose resources have been depleted. Residents enjoy peace of mind knowing that they will always have a home at Adams House where care is provided with kindness and respect.
